The ATH-R30x are open-back headphones that control airflow and reproduce original sound solely through the movement of the diaphragm. These reference headphones inherit the sonic design of their higher-end models and allow you to easily create a home music production environment. Open-back headphones do not use a housing to enhance low frequencies, but instead eliminate resonance, allowing the driver's sound to be delivered directly to your ears. The unique driver design allows for control of the airflow generated by the driver while leaving the front and back of the housing open, creating a pure and realistic sound field.

The sound of open-back headphones is strongly influenced by the performance of the drivers, with the movement of the diaphragm being directly converted into sound.
