These are general-purpose, large-sized canards, also known as thrust spoilers. Attached to the curved area from the front to the side of the front nose of a racing vehicle, these aerodynamic devices push the high-pressure airflow from the front of the vehicle to the sides and upwards, generating calculated vertical vortices on the sides of the vehicle. The vertical vortices generated by the canards suck air out of the wheelhouses, reducing lift and generating downforce. They also suppress turbulence to the sides of the body, improving straight-line stability. Although their appearance can be misleading, the downforce generated by the canards themselves is not that great; instead, optimizing the air behind them can increase downforce and straight-line stability. They also have a significant effect on brake heat dissipation, such as directing airflow away from the rotating wheels. Even if they're not large enough, a protrusion of just 2cm can be effective in improving straight-line stability on the highway.
