However, the most remarkable feature of this DIY wooden airplane model is that it appears to float in the air like an illusion, using the elegant structural engineering principle of tensegrity (tension-integrated or levitation-compression), also used in bridges and stadium roofs. With four thin fishing lines whose tension can be adjusted with a ratchet, the DIY airplane appears to float above the stand as if by magic, even though the fishing lines are below the plane.
