As a combustible and luminous daily necessities, candles can be traced back thousands of years, and play a diverse role in the development of human society, and have various attributes such as physics, chemistry, and culture.
The raw materials of modern candles mainly include wax, wicks and some additives.
The wick is made of cotton, twine or other fibers. The thickness and braiding method will affect the burning speed and stability of the candle. A high-quality wick must have good oil absorption and combustion properties to avoid wicking.
The production process of candles mainly includes steps such as ingredients, melting, mold filling, cooling, demolding, and trimming.
Candles are solid at room temperature and have a certain hardness and shape. Different types of candle hardness vary depending on the wax quality.
When the candle is lit, a series of physical and chemical changes occur.
First, the heat of the flame melts the wax into liquid state. The liquid wax is transported upwards through the capillary action of the wick. After reaching the top of the wick, it evaporates into wax vapor under high temperature. The wax vapor reacts chemically with oxygen in the air, that is, a combustion reaction, which generates carbon dioxide and water, and releases heat and light.
The purpose of candles is constantly changing with the times. Before the popularization of electricity, the main purpose of candles was lighting, which was widely used in homes, temples, palaces and other places. It provides light to people at night or in dim environments, facilitating people's lives and production activities.
Even in modern times where electricity is popular, candles still have certain application scenarios in lighting, such as being an emergency lighting tool in the event of power outages, or creating a specific atmosphere in some special occasions (such as camping and candlelight dinner). In addition to lighting, candles also play an important role in religious and cultural activities.
In many religious rituals, candles are regarded as symbols, representing light, hope or belief. Candles are used in activities such as church services in Christianity, temple prayers in Buddhists, etc.
In terms of culture, candles often appear in various festivals and celebrations, such as birthday candles at birthday parties, where people express their good wishes by blowing out candles to make wishes;
On special days such as anniversary and Valentine's Day, candles are often used to create a romantic and warm atmosphere.
Aromatherapy candles release fragrance by burning to relieve emotions and purify the air; there are also mosquito repellent candles, which add ingredients that have a mosquito repellent effect, which can be used outdoors in summer to reduce mosquito interference.
When using candles, you should pay attention to keeping good ventilation and stay away from flammable materials, avoid contact with children alone, and extinguish them in time after use.
