Paper Mario and his unique friends embark on a grand adventure!
[Story] Mario arrives in Rogue Town after receiving a letter from Princess Peach asking for his help in her treasure hunt. However, he can't find Princess Peach anywhere. Seeking clues about her whereabouts, Mario visits Professor Frankly, who studies treasures in town, and learns that the "1000-Year Door" leads to the treasure, and that seven "Star Stones" are needed to open the door. Believing that he will meet Princess Peach if he pursues the treasure, Mario, along with Christine, whom he met in town, sets off on an adventure through the paper world to find the Star Stones. It also appears that Bowser is also looking for Princess Peach...
[The adventure takes place in a paper world full of encounters and surprises] Wherever you go, you might encounter a giant dragon, or the inhabitants might suddenly turn into pigs, or incidents might occur on a train. You might come across places that seem impossible to pass through, but Mario uses his paper-thin body to squeeze into narrow gaps or transform into a paper airplane to fly through the air, using actions only paper can do to forge a path forward.
[A diverse cast of companions who join Mario on his adventures] Mario encounters slightly unusual characters in the places he visits. There's Christine, who tells him about the people, places, and enemies around him; Koopa Troopa, who is good at burrowing into shells and charging into enemies; and Cloud, who can create strong winds to blow away nearby objects. These characters become his companions and help him on his adventures with their various abilities and personalities.
[Crazy Theater Battle] When you bump into an enemy on the field, a turn-based command battle begins in a theater! Mario can choose from a variety of actions, such as "Attack," "Item," "Special Move," "Defend," and "Appeal to the Audience," depending on his strategy. Pressing the button at the right time to coincide with an attack will increase the damage dealt to the enemy, and the audience will join in to make the battle exciting.
