Introduction to Kutani Ware Techniques: Ginsai (Silver Glaze) - A sublime color that cannot be fully expressed in words. This design involves applying transparent glaze or five-color glaze over silver leaf. It is characterized by its understated brilliance, gentle shine, and glass-like texture. Despite its dazzling appearance, it is a very elaborate technique that requires firing the piece in the kiln one extra time than usual. *It is not actually silver leaf. Because thin silver leaf would melt, this is an extremely luxurious technique that uses a layer about seven times thicker than silver leaf.
Kutani ware is highly regarded worldwide as one of Japan's three major types of overglaze enamel porcelain, and as a representative traditional craft of Japan, known as "Japan Kutani."
