3️⃣ Which wheel should I choose?

Apart from ground conditions, load capacity is one of the most important criteria for selecting wheels. To determine the required load capacity, the following variables must be known:

• the equipment's own weight

• the maximum load weight or load capacity

• the number of wheels that will be used

The wheel must always be in contact with the ground. In practice, this rarely occurs due to thresholds or unevenness in the ground. As a result, the total load often ends up on three wheels, and the load per wheel increases.

Therefore, the total load must be divided by three wheels instead of four, to achieve a safe load capacity.

When determining the safe total load capacity for a 4-wheeled device, we take into account the weight of the device plus its maximum load. Divide the sum by 3 to obtain the safe load capacity that should be assumed for 1 wheel.

In other cases, the load capacities are distributed as follows:

1) 1 swivel caster + 2 fixed casters

System suitable for small loads. Easily maneuverable, but unstable.

2) 4 swivel casters

Easy to maneuver in all directions, but difficult to operate in a straight line.

3) 2 swivel casters + 2 fixed casters

easy to operate in a straight line, but more difficult when changing direction.

4) 4 fixed sets (2 central upper)

Easy to operate in a straight line, easy to maneuver, but unstable.

5) 2 fixed sets + 4 swivel sets
