[Impressive body and striking markings attract attention] Group 5 racing, which featured machines based on production cars with various modifications, boasting impressive bodies and high-output engines, was highly popular in the 1970s and 80s. Among them, the Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo is a racing car developed in 1978 by the West German racing team "Zakspeed" for the DRM (German Racing Car Championship). The body, born from thorough wind tunnel testing, is extremely low and wide. The engine is a 1427cc inline 4-cylinder Cosworth BDA. Equipped with a KKK turbocharger, it boasts a maximum output of 375 horsepower. Another feature is its light weight of only 790kg, with most of the body panels made of FRP. The Zakspeed Capri debuted at Hockenheim in the summer of 1978 and won its first victory in a sprint race held at the Nürburgring in October. In the opening round of the DRM the following year, he finished second, and in the second round, he took first place, brilliantly demonstrating his high level of skill.
